We here at MAJOR decided to throw a party to raffle off one of the two The Hundreds PK Ripper SE 26" bikes we got in. So we brought out some vintage TH pieces from seasons past and shut down the shop for 30 to set-up for the event.

We had a good crowd waiting patiently outside for the raffle, a chance to get some Hundreds good they may have slept on, and for the free drinks thanks to AMP.

The owner of the 1st TH bike MAJOR got in earlier, stopped by to say what's up.

The party gets going and the drinks start flowing.

The crowd was great and everyone seemed to have a great night. Thanks again and congrats to our one lucky winner!!!

EA Sports Fight Night Round 4 x Reigning Champ Hoodie

The EA Sports Fight Night team and fellow Vancouver based company CYC Design Corp. and their sports-apparel brand Reigning Champ (RC) have teamed up to create a special collaboration to commemorate the launch of one of the most anticipated video games to release this year in Fight Night Round 4.

Fight Night Line Producer Jeff Atienza explains that two different Fight Night x Reigning Champ signature classic fit hoodies have been created in very limited quantities. With Legendary Boxers “Iron” Mike Tyson and the “Greatest of All Time” Muhammad Ali gracing the cover of Fight Night Round 4 it also made sense to pay homage to these two great warriors through our collaboration with Reigning Champ says Atienza.

The first limited edition piece, the RC signature classic fit black hoodie with custom detailing such as Gold Flatlock on the hem and cuffs, gold zipper and Tyson and Ali’s professional fighting record embroidered on the chest.

In even fewer quantities a second RC Signature classic fit hoodie – this time in Red to pay tribute to current boxing superstar and pound for pound great Manny Pacquaio. The hoodie features Gold Flatlock on the hem and cuffs, black zipper, and Pacquaio’s current boxing record and Filipino saying - Pambansang Kamao (National Fist) a reference to Pacquaio’s status as hero in his native Philippines.

Along with Atienza, fellow Fight Night Producer Freddy Ouano worked with the duo Craig Atkinson and Kenta Goto from Reigning Champ to come up with a great design that subtlety reflects back on the boxers included in Fight Night Round 4 mixed with exceptional quality and craftsmanship Reigning Champ has become renowned for.

With the highly anticipated release of Fight Night Round 4 just around the corner on June 30th 2009, you will also see an extension to this partnership in game. Recognizable Reigning Champ apparel and gear will be seen in various boxing venues, worn by spectators, and in the games “Create a Boxer” feature where players can outfit their boxers in Reigning Champ gear.

Atienza adds the integration of Reigning Champ into the game is subtle and I think fans of Fight Night and Reigning Champ will be in for a treat. Working with the guys over at CYC and Reigning Champ has been awesome, their attention to detail is unmatched and their product speaks for itself.

Unfortunately these ultra limited pieces will only be distributed among select celebrities, sports figures and influencers upon release. The First Day of CHANGE!

What a day! January 20th, 2009 will go down in the history, as the day that CHANGE really became reality.

As DC is my personal home, and the home to MAJOR, it is with a great personal pride to share this great city with our new President, Barack Obama. Unlike former president bush, President Obama is someone that I voted for, and someone who I can proudly proclaim "Our President."

While we are in the midst of this joyful celebration, let's not forget that our new President needs all of us to help him achieve change that we desperately need in this country. Just as he bold declared during his Inauguration speech, all citizens must exercise "responsibility" in order to overcome the war and the economic crisis that threatens our way of life!

I am proud to be an American today. I am proud of the fact that someone with not-so-American name can be elected the President of our country. I am proud of the fact that so many Americans voted for the man with the best qualifications to lead our country, without basing their decision on the man's skin color, or age. We are indeed living in a New America!

Let this significant moment in history be an inspiration to us all... Yes We Can & Yes We Will!

AACA Global Launch - Inauguration Weekend

How many of you remember those AACA hoodies? Let's take it back all the way to 1992, when everyone was rocking Champion hoodies, and all of sudden, rappers started rocking these AACA hoodies, repping Historically Black Colleges and Universities. These hoodies were made of the best quality heavyweight fleece, and felt more like an outerwear than a typical layering piece a hoodie was at the time.

The driving force behind it all, and responsible for putting these hoodies on every popular rapper alive at the time, was none other than my friend, Chris Latimer. Chris went onto start an agency called Da Streetz, which specialized in marketing and product placement for various clients, including CCM Hockey Jerseys, American Needle, Fubu and various music companies. He also went onto create Cancun Memorial Day Weekend events, which have become legendary.

But Chris has always sought to bring back his first passion, which was African American College Alliance, or AACA for short. Having graduated from Howard University, he feels especially proud to have been one of the pioneers of urban/streetwear game that paid tribute to institutions where "getting fly" originated from.

Fast forward to 2009, MAJOR is proud to partner with Chris Latimer & AACA in the Launch of AACA Brand. In this historically significant weekend, AACA will debut its first collection at MAJOR. AACA staff will be on hand on Friday, January 16th through Sunday, January 18th to assist in sales. These are 480 Gram Premium Cotton Fleece with heavy duty double sided ribbed gusset, and oversized hood, just the way you remember them from back in the day with everyone from Biggie to Snoop rocking these hoodies at performances and in the videos. Now, as you can see from above, The Cool Kids are rocking these hoodies with pride, as the new generation takes over!

Hip Hop Theatre Festival 2008

MAJOR Gradient Safari Fitted... Coming Real Soon!

Some of you got the first glimpse of the new MAJOR fitted on this post.

Now you get to see better pictures of the fitted, before we shoot the official NewsChannel post.

As you can see the pattern is our beloved Safari pattern, but with our new design twist. The color of the Safari pattern fades from Dark Purple to Teal. Thanks to Shawn C., who executed this pattern, we were able to achieve a true gradient pattern, printed on white cotton for that crispy summer look.

This cap took over a year from concept to production. Some of you have seen me rock the sample on occasions, and we made subtle changes to make sure that our customers get the best fitted possible, the MAJOR way!

This will be the first official Summer drop for the year, but we will have many more MAJOR releases coming, including DC 4th of July Celebration Cap & 8.8.08 Beijing Olympic Edition caps.

Our MAJOR Trinity Logo is very close to our hearts, and symbolizes our DC roots in a truly iconic manner. Designed by my good friend, Dheen Weening, a former creative director for TRUE SF, this logo has been embraced by everyone in the DMV, and people all over the world!

It's totally another level of respect for the Trinity to see it in the form of a tattoo. Big shouts to Luis for getting inked, and sending us the flick.

Today, in the midst of our busy day @ MAJOR, a friend of mine stops through and tells me that one of our MAJOR fitteds made an appearance on The 07 Rap Up video by Skillz. It's in all the scenes that Skillz is at The Hundreds store.
I didn't even know that our DMV Fitted made it into Skillz' video, as I was paying attention to the song and not what he was rocking, but when we checked it out, Skillz was definitely rocking The MAJOR fitted, in front of one of our favorite brand partners in the business, The Hundreds Store in Los Angeles. Big ups to Skillz, Chris Robinson & the whole Robot Films crew, and of course, The Legendary Roots Crew, with whom Skillz is embarking on a 35 city tour next week.

Oh, the friend of mine that stopped by the store and told me about the video? It was Skillz himself. We definitely appreciate the support, and all of you should go check him out on tour in Europe and Asia this year!

1 Year Anniversary Update

Many of you guys have written or called me about what we have in store for our First Anniversary coming up.

We have kept things under our hats (pun intended) until now.

One thing for sure, we are not having a party or an in-store event. One of the worst things about having a birthday in December (I should know... I just had mine on December 12th), is that most people are so caught up in holidays that the celebration just doesn't seem like it would be if your birthday is... in March. Right now, our goal is to make sure that everyone can find that perfect gift for their loved ones and themselves, and we will concentrate on having the best product here.

But, as an exclusive source for sharing our latest news with our fam, I will let you know this...

We will have 5 MAJOR fitteds dropping on Monday, December 17th, which is our official birthdate. They will all be remix versions of our much beloved, and much sought after, 1st generation MAJOR fitteds. We promised you that we will never release the exact same cap twice. So we had to do a remix!

Also dropping will be another collab effort with one of our favorite West Coast brands. It will be a t-shirt and New Era fitted combination. This brand has never been able to produce a New Era collab before doing this 3-Way with us.

First and foremost, I would like to thank our MAJOR family, yes, that's MAJOR family, for all the encouragement, love, and support that you have given our crew for the last year!

MAJOR family is extended beyond just the current employees, and our customers, but includes everyone from our brand partners (too many to shout out), marketing & PR partners (Complex, SoleCollector, Scheme, Washington Post, and all the blog sites), as well as everyone who has been touched by MAJOR in some part of their lives.

One year ago, on December 17th, 2006 as the clock struck midnight, we ripped down the construction paper on our window, and unveiled to the world what MAJOR experience is all about. I still remember that day like yesterday, 72 hours of work with no sleep, contractors getting done with their final touches 5 hours before opening, the line that formed all the way down the block, and the experience of ringing up our first customers with MAJOR x New Era fitteds, MAJOR x LRG t-shirts, Jordan Spizikes, and much more.

A lot has changed in one year. One of our original employees, Damu, is currently one of the most acclaimed producers in hip hop (check out his latest effort, Y-Society). Another original employee, Q Jefferson of Grand High, put out a artist collabo shoes with K-Swiss. And as you've been with us for the entire ride, you've seen the MAJOR brand Trinity (The 3 Bars and 3 Stars that form an M) on celebrities like Nas, Bun B., Clark Kent, Ed Lover, Talib Kweli, and Lebron.

In one year, after opening as the first premium footwear and streetwear ultra boutique experience in Washington DC, we have been included in every prestigious category of athletic footwear hierarchy. MAJOR is Nike Tier Zero Select, adidas Consortium Partner, New Balance Super Team 33, Puma's List Program, Creative Recreation Prime, and Reebok Edge, just on the footwear side. We are also proud to bring you the largest selection of Nike Tech Pack Energy Apparel, Addict Clothing UK, and Penfield, along with the best of US streetwear brands like The Hundreds, Lemar & Dauley, Orisue, Rogue Status, Orchard Street, Dissizit, PegLeg, and more.

We have sold over 1,000 MAJOR fitteds in our first year, and the best is yet to come! As we celebrate the 1st year anniversary, we will be releasing six remix colorways of our original MAJOR and Washington fitteds that you loved. Embroidered with the 1st Anniversary Logo on the right, these fitteds are the colors that you wanted from our first offering, but remixed so that the buyers of the original fitteds won't have to feel like we are messing up their most cherished classic MAJOR fitted.

Also, as we celebrate the 1st year, this blog, which started it all for us, is making a triumphant comeback. NeverMinor blog will serve as me & Underdog's outlet to share our personal feelings about the business, and the world that we live in. Unlike the NewsChannel, NeverMinor will be the personal side of MAJOR, the entity.
